Texas Fresh Cracked Pecans - Bulk

Cracked means the pecans are still in their shells, but we have run them through a mechanical cracker that breaks the shell open without crushing the meat inside. You still need to pick the pecan halves and pieces out by hand, but the hardest part of the work is done. Most folks find that an afternoon at the kitchen table with a bowl, the cracked pecans, and maybe a picking tool yields plenty of nut meat for pies, snacking, or freezer storage. It is a nice middle ground between buying whole in-shell pecans and paying for fully shelled halves at retail prices.

A good rule of thumb is that our cracked pecans yield about fifty percent meat and fifty percent shell by weight. So a 20 pound bulk box will give you roughly 10 pounds of pecan halves and pieces once you have picked them out, and a 30 pound box will yield about 15 pounds of usable nut meat. The exact yield can vary slightly based on the harvest year and variety, but our pecan varieties have been bred over generations at our Mother Orchard (known as the oldest commercial pecan orchard in the United States if not the world) to deliver a high meat-to-shell ratio. …but don’t discard those shells! They are great for flower beds or for smoking meat at barbecues!
