At Millican Pecan, we offer a variety of pecans that fit easily into a dairy-free diet, including raw pecan halves and pieces, roasted pecans and select specialty varieties. Enjoy them straight from the bag, add them to salads and oatmeal, or use them in your favorite dairy-free recipes for a rich, buttery pecan flavor without a drop of butter.
Dairy Free Pecans Grown on Our Family Orchard
Our pecans are grown and harvested on our family-owned orchards in San Saba, Texas, then shelled, processed and shipped by us directly to you. Since 1888, five generations of the Millican family have been dedicated to growing and producing fresh, quality Texas pecans. Owning the orchard, the shelling plant, commercial orchard kitchen, and the packing facility is also what lets us answer a straight question about ingredients without having to ask somebody else first.
Naturally Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free and Plant-Based
Pecans are naturally dairy-free, gluten-free and plant-based, while providing healthy fats, fiber and plant-based protein. An ounce carries about 20 grams of fat, most of it monounsaturated, along with nearly 3 grams of fiber and roughly 20 vitamins and minerals. They are an easy, satisfying ingredient to keep on hand for everyday snacking and for dairy-free cooking and baking.
Why We Keep Our Dairy Free Pecans in One Place
If you avoid dairy, you already know the hard part is not milk itself. It is the incidental dairy tucked into foods that have no business containing it. Snack nuts are among the worst offenders: pick up a bag of roasted pecans almost anywhere and you may find butter powder, whey, milk solids or natural butter flavor in the ingredients. Gathering our dairy-free items into one collection means you can shop without auditing every label, which is most of what this page is for.
Everyday Ways to Cook With Dairy-Free Pecans
Most people come to a collection like this because they need richness, not just a snack. Toasted pecans give a salad the weight a sprinkle of cheese used to. Chopped pecans folded into oatmeal or a fruit crisp do the work of cream. Ground pecans, whether you buy pecan meal or run raw halves through a food processor, bring fat and body to a crust or crumble that would otherwise taste thin without butter. It is the same trick Southern cooks have used for generations, with the dairy simply left out.
Shop our selection of dairy-free pecans and experience the fresh, rich flavor of pecans grown and shipped by our family-owned Texas pecan company.
Please check the ingredient list for individual flavored, chocolate-covered or specialty products, as some varieties may contain milk or other dairy ingredients.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, and the name trips people up constantly. Pecan butter is pecans ground until the natural oils release and the texture turns spreadable, the same way peanut butter is made from peanuts. The word butter describes the consistency, not an ingredient, so there is no dairy in it at any stage. If the name has kept you away from nut butters, this one is worth revisiting.
Anything flavored, candied or chocolate-covered. Butter and cream are what most confectioners reach for to make a nut taste richer, so our butter roasted pecans, caramel pecan popcorn, praline pecans, chewy pralines, log rolls, divinity, milk chocolate pecans and pies all contain dairy. They are all still in our full store for the rest of the household, and every product page carries a full ingredient list. We would rather tell you that here than have you find it on the back of a bag.
For lactose intolerance, where the issue is digesting milk sugar, the plain and raw pecans here should pose no problem at all, since there are no dairy ingredients in them. For a diagnosed milk allergy the honest answer needs more care: our kitchen does use butter and cream for the confections named above, so we cannot describe the facility itself as dairy-free and we will not tell you the risk of cross-contact is zero. Contact us before ordering and we will explain exactly how a specific item is made and on what equipment, so you can decide with real information.
They solve different problems. A commercial butter replacement is built to behave like butter, so it creams and melts the way a recipe expects, which matters in something delicate like a layer cake. Ground pecans do not melt or cream, but they contribute real fat and flavor, which is why they outperform substitutes in crusts, crumbles, coatings and anything rustic. The most reliable approach in a dairy-free kitchen is to use the substitute for structure and pecans for flavor and richness, rather than asking either one to do both.
