Native pecans fall into that category. They are harvested from trees that are as distinctive as the state they grow in, and they produce a nut that is just as unique in shape and flavor, setting them apart from the rest of the nut world. Pecans have thrived in Texas for thousands of years. Spanish explorers on their arrival observed Native Americans gathering native pecans from the trees that seemed to be purposefully placed along the Texas Rivers.
I've talked in past blogs about working on pecan equipment, but have not given many details as to what we do. During the harvest season, we operate at “full steam ahead”! While most repairs can be fixed during the early morning, daily maintenance, some things take more time.
With the demand for quality pecan growing every day, the need to know where the best pecans come from gets higher. Pecan which belongs to the hickory species, and can also be called Carya illinoinensis is a very enjoyable nut that can serve as a healthy snack and for a standard meal.
Hi! My name is Kristen Millican and I am so glad you have stopped by! Our family has been harvesting and selling pecans since 1888. I love sharing various pecan recipes, stories about life on our pecan farm, and so much more!
