Waterlogging of Subsoil in Stuart Pecans 1958

Pecan Research

WATERLOGGING OF SUBSOIL ASSOCIATED WITH SCORCHING AND DEFOLIATION OF STUART PECAN TREES

A. O. Alben, Crops Research Division, Agricultural Research Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture

Free water in the lower root zone of Stuart pecan trees in September and October was found to be positively correlated with scorching of leaves and premature defoliation of the trees from the tops downward. A waterlogged subsoil condition in April and May did not cause any visible injury.
