Can You Leave Pecan Pie Out on the Counter?

Baking a pecan pie may not be that challenging, but people prefer to prepare for the event or festivities a day before. This way, there are fewer chances of mistakes and forgetting things at the last moment.  If you are planning to bake your pies in advance, then don’t worry. You can still enjoy its mouthwatering and scrumptious flavor the next day.

It is important to note that pies don’t get spoiled if you keep them for one or two days at room temperature. So, if you have baked pecan pie, and you plan to eat it the same or the next day, you can leave pecan pie out overnight on the counter.

Just make sure that your pies are completely covered to prevent any insects or particles from spoiling them.

But What if You Have Taken it out from Fridge?

Keeping your pies in the fridge will help you increase their shelf life up to 4 days. But if you want to leave it overnight at room temperature after taking it out from the fridge, it will get spoiled.

You can only keep it at room temperature for two hours. Since pecan pies contain eggs, they have more chances to get bad and make you sick. So, if you have kept your pies in the fridge, put them back within two hours.

On the other hand, store-bought pies contain preservatives that keep them from spoiling. Therefore, they have a longer shelf life, and you can leave them out at room temperature for a longer period.

How You Can Store Your Pies in Fridge?

If you want to keep your pies fresh in the fridge, you need to store them in an appropriate way. Follow these pecan pie storage steps to store your tasty pies.

  • Keep your pies on the counter to let them cool at room temperature.
  • Cover your pies with a layer of aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Keep the cover loose, and don’t apply too much pressure to maintain the shape and look of your pies.
  • As an alternative, you can also keep it in the refrigerator and cover it with a large metal bowl. This option is best for those who have enough space in the refrigerator.
  • Lastly, refrigerate your covered pie for 3 to 4 days.

Bottom Line

In a nutshell, keeping a pecan pie for a day or two at room temperature doesn’t cause any problem until you have put it in the fridge for a few hours. Well, for precautionary reasons, it is best to store your pecan pies in the fridge than taking the risk.
